You know the scene: You look outside on a November morning and it’s pouring rain! You think “I want to look as chic as I do on a sunny day, but will the rain ruin my favorite designer bag?” Your designer handbag is a big investment so you don’t want to do anything that could ruin it.

At Magnes Sisters, we’ve been dealing with this question ever since we started making designer leather handbags. We use only extremely high-grade leather for all our bags and that is good news: the higher the quality of leather, the better it will weather the storms! That being said, there are a few things you can do to extend the life of your designer handbag investment and keep it looking beautiful, even when the weather is severe.

3 Tips to make your designer leather handbag last longer:

1. Use a good leather cleaner. Wipes, suede protector spray or conditioner will restore the natural appearance of the leather and keep it soft and supple, too. Apply once every three months, or reapply after the bag gets wet.

2. When you’re not using it, store your leather handbag in a specially designed storage bag. These nifty little bags not only keep the leather from being scratched, but will keep it dust free, as well. Every Magnes Sisters handbag comes with a handmade storage bag for just this reason.

3. When you are at a restaurant, use a handbag hook to keep your leather handbag off the floor. Not only is it safer but it also will keep all the yucky stuff on the floor from sticking to the bottom of your bag.

For many years we’ve designed handbags that are functional, extraordinarily well
made, and most of all, chic. Our bags look amazing with the latest fashions. Our
clutches and shoulder bags are huge sellers. Our fans love them.

Then I had kids.

Suddenly functional, well made, and chic wasn’t enough. I needed a “mom bag”!

What’s a “mom bag”? Well, a “mom bag” is all about size. It has to be BIG. Really
BIG. And comfortable to carry, with tons of compartments.

I interviewed my “mom friends” and discovered that we were all in the same
predicament: we all wanted a bag that was roomy enough to handle everything
that a busy multi-tasker’s life requires: a laptop, an extra pair of shoes, makeup,
wallet, keys, a notebook, and pens and pencils.

But also: zip-lock bags filled with Goldfish, Cheerios and pretzels, numerous
diapers, a change of clothes, bibs, a bottle of sunscreen, a camera, bottles, a box
of apple juice, little toys, and so much more.

Moreover, the perfect “mom bag” would be gorgeous enough to keep us looking
chic even when we were schlepping the kids around town. And that perfect bag
just didn’t exist.

So, the Magnes Sisters created the Moon Handbag. It has got it all!

1. If your zipper comes off the grooves: try pressing on the base of the zipper to “lock” it into the grooves.

2. If your zipper becomes loose: Spray hairspray on the zipper after you have zipped the bag closed. Point the can directly at the area and apply a generous amount. This makes the zipper sticky and keeps it from becoming loose.

3. Put some candle wax under the zipper. Melt a small amount of neutral colored wax and apply it below the top. Hot wax under the zipper top will keep the zipper in place. But be careful not to drip the wax onto any other part of the bag!

4. Use a safety pin or key ring holder to keep the zipper in place. This works for zippers that are not visible.

I (Yael) learned that from my friend Dvir Wasserman years ago, he use to design specific pouches and bags at his army serves, today I design handbags, he teaches yoga.
